Clear Aligners and Orthodontics

Orthodontic treatment with clear aligners

Orthodontic treatments aim to correct crowding, spacing, and, in appropriate cases, bite problems in teeth. At Sone Oral and Dental Health Clinic, the orthodontic treatment plan is created individually for each patient, taking into account their teeth and jaw structure, bite, aesthetic expectations, and treatment needs.

In addition to traditional fixed orthodontic treatments, clear aligner systems can offer a more aesthetic and removable treatment alternative in suitable cases.

What is Clear Aligner Treatment?

In clear aligner treatment, the current position of the teeth is digitally assessed, and custom-made aligner series are prepared according to the planned tooth movements. The aligners are used in a predetermined sequence to move the teeth to their targeted positions in a controlled manner.

Because they are transparent, they are less noticeable in the mouth compared to classic metal brackets. Additionally, the fact that they can be removed during meals and oral care provides a significant advantage for daily use.

Who are suitable candidates for clear aligners?

Clear aligners can be used to treat mild to moderate malocclusion, as well as more extensive orthodontic problems in appropriate cases.

However, not every orthodontic case is equally suitable for clear aligners. The position of the teeth, bite relationships, the type of tooth movement required, and the patient's compliance with aligner use are all evaluated to determine whether clear aligners or fixed orthodontic treatment is more appropriate.

What are the advantages of clear aligners?

One of the most important features of clear aligners is that they are less visible during treatment. The fact that they can be removed while eating and teeth can be brushed normally makes maintaining oral hygiene easier.

Furthermore, digital planning allows for the pre-planning of tooth movements targeted during the treatment process. However, for successful treatment, it is important to use the aligners for the duration recommended by the dentist.

Braces and Fixed Orthodontic Treatments

In traditional orthodontic treatment, teeth are repositioned by applying controlled forces through brackets and orthodontic wires placed on the teeth.

Fixed orthodontic systems are an important treatment option, especially for some complex tooth movements and bite problems. The system to be used is determined according to the difficulty of the treatment and the patient's needs.

Şeffaf Plak mı, Tel Tedavisi mi?

Clear aligners are preferred by many patients because they are less visible, removable, and make maintaining oral hygiene easier. However, the success of the treatment depends on the patient wearing the aligners regularly for the recommended duration.

In fixed orthodontic treatment, the appliances cannot be removed by the patient, and tooth movements are constantly monitored. Fixed systems may be more suitable for some complex orthodontic movements.

Therefore, it is not accurate to say that one method is better than the other for every patient. The most suitable method is determined according to the type of orthodontic problem and the individual.

Will my teeth become deformed again after treatment?

After orthodontic treatment is completed, retention therapy is applied to help the teeth maintain their new positions.

Depending on the case, fixed retainers or removable retention appliances may be used. Failure to follow the recommendations during the retention period may increase the risk of tooth re-movement.

The clear aligner system we use: Invisalign®

In our clinic, we use the Invisalign® clear aligner system, which is widely used worldwide for clear aligner treatments. Before treatment, a personalized digital treatment plan is created by evaluating the current position of the teeth and their bite relationships.

This plan aims to move teeth to their targeted positions in a controlled and gradual manner using clear aligners. The removable and transparent nature of the Invisalign® system offers a significant alternative, especially for patients who want to maintain their aesthetic appearance during treatment. Whether patients are suitable for Invisalign® treatment is determined after an examination, based on the type and extent of the orthodontic problem.
