Avcılar Pediatric Dentistry

Our pediatric dentistry clinic in Avcılar provides services covering the protection of the health of primary and permanent teeth in children from infancy to adolescence, the early detection of oral and dental diseases, and the planning of necessary treatments according to the child's age and needs.
At Sone Oral and Dental Health Clinic, we aim not only to treat existing dental problems in our child patients, but also to prevent future issues through preventive measures and regular check-ups.
First Dental Examination for Children
Early introduction of children to the dentist is important not only for monitoring oral and dental development but also for familiarizing them with the dental environment. During the initial check-ups, the eruption status of teeth, oral hygiene, eating habits, and risk of cavities can be assessed.
Regular check-ups allow for the early detection of potential problems that haven't yet caused pain, enabling the planning of necessary preventative measures.
Preventive Treatments in Children (Fissure Sealants and Fluoride)
The deep grooves on the chewing surfaces of molars can be breeding grounds for food debris and bacterial plaque. Fissure sealants help reduce the risk of cavities by sealing these grooves and crevices with a thin protective material in suitable teeth.
Especially in newly erupted permanent molars, fissure sealant application may be planned after assessing the child's risk of decay.
Professional fluoride applications are one of the preventive methods that can be applied, especially in children at risk of cavities, to support the resistance of tooth enamel to decay.
The necessity and frequency of fluoride application are not the same for every child. A personalized preventive program can be created by evaluating the child's age, existing cavities, risk of new cavities, oral hygiene, and dietary habits.
Tooth Decay, Root Canal and Filling Treatment in Children
The treatment of cavities in children is planned according to the depth of the cavity, whether the tooth is a primary or permanent tooth, the expected duration of the tooth's presence in the mouth, and the child's clinical condition.
In suitable cases, the decayed tissue can be removed and the tooth restored with child-appropriate restorative materials. Our goal is to preserve as much healthy tooth tissue as possible while ensuring the tooth continues to function.
In primary and young permanent teeth, the pulp tissue can be affected by deep decay or trauma. Depending on the condition of the tooth, treatments aimed at preserving the pulp or, in necessary cases, root canal treatment options may be considered.
Endodontic treatments applied to primary teeth are not always the same as root canal treatments in adult teeth. The treatment method is determined by considering the developmental stage of the tooth, the extent of the infection, and how long the tooth needs to remain in the mouth.
My child is afraid of the dentist, what can we do?
The approach to dental treatment for child patients can vary depending on their age, previous experiences, and anxiety level. Therefore, it is important to help the child become accustomed to the dental environment and establish a trusting relationship, especially during the initial consultations.
The treatment process is tailored as much as possible to the child's age and cooperation. If necessary, treatments can be broken down into shorter sessions, or visits can be scheduled primarily to help the child adapt to the environment.
Should a baby tooth be extracted or treated?
Extracting a decayed baby tooth is not always the first option. The tooth's restoreability, the presence of infection, the development of the underlying permanent tooth, and the time remaining until the baby tooth naturally falls out are all evaluated together.
In suitable cases, preserving the primary tooth in the mouth with fillings or pulp treatments may be preferred. For teeth that cannot be preserved or that pose a risk of infection, extraction and, if necessary, a space maintainer are considered.
What are placeholders and when might they be needed?

When a baby tooth is lost before its normal shedding time, neighboring teeth may move into the resulting space. This can reduce the space needed for the permanent tooth to erupt.
In appropriate cases, space maintainers can be used to preserve the space created by the premature loss of a primary tooth. Not every premature primary tooth loss requires a space maintainer; the decision is made by evaluating the child's age, which tooth was lost, and the developmental status of the permanent tooth.
What should be done if your child's permanent teeth are erupting crookedly?
As children's baby teeth begin to be replaced, permanent teeth start to erupt in the mouth. During this period, some teeth may erupt crookedly, crowded, or in different positions. In particular, insufficient space in the jaw, early loss of baby teeth, or conditions related to jaw development can affect the eruption position of permanent teeth.
Not every crooked tooth necessarily requires orthodontic treatment. The child's age, the stage of tooth eruption, jaw development, and available space in the mouth should all be considered together. Early check-ups allow for monitoring the developmental process, and orthodontic evaluations can be planned at the appropriate time for children where deemed necessary.
