Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Avcılar

Oral surgery encompasses a variety of procedures, from tooth extractions and impacted tooth operations to apical resection, implants, and advanced bone surgeries. At Sone Oral and Dental Health Clinic, surgical procedures are planned individually for each patient after clinical examination and necessary radiographic imaging, taking into account their anatomical and clinical conditions.

Our goal in treatment is not simply to perform the surgical procedure; it is to adopt a minimally traumatic and controlled approach that preserves natural teeth and surrounding tissues as much as possible.

Impacted and Partially Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Impacted wisdom tooth and surgical tooth extraction.

Wisdom teeth can remain completely or partially impacted due to insufficient space in the jaw, eruption problems, or anatomical obstacles. While some impacted wisdom teeth cause no symptoms, in some cases they can lead to pain, recurrent infections, inflammation of the surrounding gum tissues, decay in adjacent teeth, or other problems.

Not every impacted wisdom tooth needs to be extracted. The need for extraction is determined by evaluating the tooth's position, the patient's complaints, neighboring anatomical structures, and radiographic findings. Depending on the position of the wisdom tooth, standard extraction or surgical extraction may be performed. In cases of impacted or complicated teeth, the tooth is extracted by carefully manipulating the gum and surrounding bone tissue when necessary.

Apical Resection

Apical resection is a procedure in which, in appropriate cases, infected or pathological tissues at the root tip of a tooth are surgically accessed and the root tip and surrounding diseased tissue are removed.

Apical resection can be considered as a surgical option to preserve the natural tooth, especially in certain cases where root canal treatment has been previously applied and orthograde endodontic approach alone has not been successful. The decision for apical resection is made after evaluating the restorative status of the tooth, periodontal support, root anatomy, and the existing lesion.

Jaw Cysts and Cystic Lesions

Cystic lesions can develop in the jawbones or areas associated with teeth for various reasons. While some of these formations may be detected incidentally during routine radiographic examinations, others may cause symptoms such as swelling, pain, or infection.

The necessary surgical approach is planned by evaluating the size, location, and associated anatomical structures of the lesion. If necessary, the removed tissues are sent for histopathological examination to support the definitive diagnosis.

Implant Surgery and Sinus Lifting and Sinus Floor Elevation

Dental implants for treating missing teeth are planned according to the patient's existing bone structure and prosthetic needs. The number of implants, their placement, and the prosthetic system to be used are determined on a case-by-case basis, ranging from single tooth loss to complete edentulism.

In addition to standard implant applications, different implant-supported solutions such as screw-retained prostheses, multi-abutment systems, and short implants can be used in suitable cases.

Insufficient bone volume in the area where implant placement is planned does not always mean that implant treatment is not possible. Different bone augmentation methods can be used, taking into account the amount, type, and anatomical location of bone loss.

In suitable cases, bone grafts, guided bone regeneration (GBR), barrier membranes, and various regenerative biomaterials can be used to create the necessary bone volume in the implant placement area.

When implant placement is planned in the posterior region of the upper jaw, the existing bone height may be insufficient in some patients due to the location of the maxillary sinus.

In suitable cases, sinus lifting procedures can be considered to create the necessary bone conditions for implant placement. Different surgical approaches may be preferred depending on the existing bone height and anatomy of the case.

Periodontal and Regenerative Surgery

In advanced periodontal disease, periodontal surgical techniques may be used for persistent periodontal pockets, certain bone defects, or mucogingival problems that persist after initial periodontal treatment.

In suitable cases, periodontal regeneration, bone grafting, membrane applications, gingival grafts, and root surface capping operations may be planned. One of the main goals of periodontal surgery is to preserve the natural teeth and the supporting tissues surrounding the teeth whenever possible.

Surgical Treatments for Gum Recession

Are surgical procedures painful?

Oral surgery procedures are mostly performed under local anesthesia. Surgical planning is done according to the scope of the procedure and the patient's clinical condition. Post-operative pain, swelling, and other signs of healing may vary depending on the type of surgery performed and the individual's healing response.

Following post-surgical care recommendations and undergoing necessary check-ups are important for monitoring the healing process.
